The Vernal Temple. The reason this city was considered and centered as a getaway. Sunday we drove two blocks South of Main and parked in front of the temple. It felt a bit hypocritical to be visiting the grounds in camping shorts while other members sitting through church meetings in the neighboring chapel. But, the morning was peaceful and the streets calm. Beautiful and sunny.
This temple is uniquely built within the pioneer-built walls of the city's historic tabernacle. It is small, no bigger than Bountiful's white tabernacle I grew up attending. No bigger than the modern church house that shares the same city block. On the West side where we started, two dated circles are mounted above the doorway. 1907 - the year it was dedicated as a tabernacle. 1997 - the year it was dedicated as a temple. It was a pretty building. The rock work and moldings classic. The work put into restoring a prominent feature of the city was evident and special.

The walk around the four sides offered pretty angles. Quiet spots to stop and look up. The spot that I'll remember as my favorite, tho, is where we rested at the end: the NorthWest corner, looking back. Under a shady tree, we found the day's only real break from the heat. The kids running around. Dogpile on Matt. Sweet smiles having a good time! A good memory around temple grounds!
