Find-Out Friday: Outdoor Colors

All that was required for today's exploring was an empty egg carton for each, and small colored squares of paper glued into each compartment. Cheap. Plan was to head out on a neighborhood walk and find something small to match each color. I decided that one round in the front yard and a second round in the back would work better. I wouldn't mind little girls beheading a few flowers. Neighbors might.

Despite Meg's profile in the second shot, they really did have a good time. The girls were careful to not repeat what sister had selected. Between our flowers in bloom and the vegetable garden, they were able to create four complete carton collections! Once all together in one spot, I think this activity made a great show of an outdoor rainbow!

Above: Paige's front yard findings, then Meg's. Below: Paige's backyard findings, then Meg's. They had to settle on rocks with slight blue hues, but could easily round up the rest. Isn't that butterfly filling the black spot amazing?! We watched it flutter around with a wounded wing last night. Although sad it no longer lives, it was perfect to closely examine. Sure, I had to do the careful picking up, but once dumped onto the picnic table for closer inspection and resorting, it was deemed a favorite. As was the black dragonfly wing found on a last walk across the grass. Can you see it in the final mix? Almost like an I Spy picture.
