Up against the Strainer

One of our annual measurements of how big the kids are getting: where they stand against the applesauce strainer! Two years ago, Paige was uninterested in the full day's work. Last year, Meg stood as the official "smoosher." Paige lacked the muscles to really help. This year, Meg was off at school and probably remains oblivious that we filled any quarts. This year, Paige has grown big enough to man the smooshing tool. This year, Tyler has grown big enough to climb onto the second chair and watch the discard pile. His job: to chant "gross!" In the next year, or two, I'm sure he'll take over Paige's position against the strainer and help by "pushing down a red poker so that apples go down the hole."

Paige's journal drawing of the morning's project (had to darken the contrast to see most of it on screen). She was certain to include the detail of my braid and the requirement to have her hair pulled back (She hates to keep her hair in an elastic).
