Matt and I knew of Friday night's "winter storm warning" that was in effect. It was obvious by the cold winds blowing. But, we were still surprised by the girls' announcement early the next morning. Of course they were up tromping around long before we were. Rolling back over, I listened as I tracked them moving from room to room. Then the feet got quicker, louder, and closer. "Dad, you've got to come see this! There is a tree on your truck! No. Not your work truck. YOUR truck!"
Well, that got us out of bed! Me stumbling to find my glasses. Matt stumbling to find a jacket to pull on and head outside. When the front curtains were drawn we indeed found nothing less than a huge chunk of tree covering the truck's hood. Stinkin' overgrown weed nextdoor. We had tried to warn them it'd come down. Down on our property. Great: insurance, cleanup, and places we need to be rush through our minds.
We locate the car insurance. Give them a call. We locate the camera. Of course document (but not just for blogging purposes this time). Matt gets his saw. Cuts the chunk, past the hood, off. He hands me the keys and directs me to back up while he lifts the remaining branch.
Really...just back up?
Well back up, I did. No problems. And once the tree was off and Matt could brush off the hood, we noticed no dings, dents, or scratches. Not a one! Lucky!
Turns out these pictures did just end up here, rather than filed away to an insurance company. Granted, all would have been covered by insurance...and, thankfully, this wake-up call got the landlord nextdoor over with a chainsaw. Preventative of more crashing down.
Sometimes it takes what first appears as a disaster to serve as a reminder that the hassle things could have been was a blessing to have avoided! That the simple ability to back ones car out, and a scenery of snow covered trees standing firm are not to be taken for granted.
